Lookin' for some Ole Miss Recruiting News?
Those are three completely different Razorback message boards containing multiple threads about the Ole Miss program. These threads were not hard to find as all of them were literally on each website's respective first page of listed threads. These postsers are especially focused on our recruiting and recruiting rankings because, if you can't beat 'em on the field, you might as well try to "beat" 'em on the first Wednesday in February.
It seems that the Arkansas Razorbacks have begun to pay more attention to the Ole Miss football program than most Ole Miss fans. When you consider the facts that
A) Most Ole Miss fans really don't follow the program at all
B) Moonshine makes folks angry, bitter, and agressive
C) Methamphetamines cause days-long stints of insomnia
it really isn't too terribly surprising. Ole Miss fans are far too carefree while Arkansas fans are far too obsessive. One group of fans fancy this as some kind of social event, the other equates it to a bloodsport.
The only thing these two groups have in common is that both of them are trying to prove a point. The Arkansas fans are (maybe) trying to prove to everyone outside of NWA that they're not the ones being stupid and that Houston Nutt really is as awful as they say. We Rebels are still trying to prove to everyone in NWA that we don't give a shit about their opinions.
Nope. Not even one shit. Hell, we don't even give a half of a shit.
I guess my biggest beef with all of these message board users is that they're all so self-congratulatory. They're mostly comprised of a bunch of people who are bored at work and, as haters of their own lives, would simply like someone to validate their opinions every half-hour or so.
Talk around the "water cooler" in Little Rock
Will this EVER end?

I'm a big Ole Miss fan... but damn.
I don't want to poke fun at what was obviously a sick, sick thing happening. I mean, two people died. That's just insane. What brings someone to do that? While trying to avoid too much humor, I can't fathom how the conversation went.
LSU fan: Well, y'all won, but we sure did put up a fight.
Bama fan: Bear Bryant would have won by more points over that faggot quarterback y'all have down there.
LSU fan: Take that back, or I'll shoot you.
Bama fan: Too late. BLAM.
I mean, if my everyday life contained the possibility of being shot whenever I insulted someone or felt insulted, I would be dead. Also, I would move.
It's things like this that give the South the reputation it has for its obsessed fans, and in this instance, they're very right. Alabama fans, you may not be crazier than Arkansas fans, but you're close.

A Defense for Jevan Snead
We all saw that Jevan had a poor first half, but he did nothing to jeopardize a victory. He threw no interceptions and did a decent job of keeping the Auburn defense at bay. True, he did make some horrible throws and true, his receivers weren't helping very much but Jevan most certainly did nothing which would warrant him being booed by his home crowd.
If you booed Jevan Snead you're likely an idiot.
Here you'll see the SEC statistics leaders. Scroll down to the passing categories and take a look at Jevan's numbers as they stack up against other SEC quarterbacks. What? You're too lazy to do that? Well, fine, I snagged a screen capture.
Look. While Jevan isn't setting the world on fire, he's certainly far from horrible. Yeah, he and Casey Dick lead the conference in INTs (which has subsequently hurt his efficiency rating) but he is tied with Tim "Heisman" Tebow for the most TD tosses in conference. He's third in yards per game. Third! Jevan has secured his place as the third best quarterback in the conference with behind Stafford and Tebow who, without any doubt in my mind, have better lines, receivers, and coaches.Yet, you asshats booed him. That's ok, though. He showed up after his rocky start, tossed his two touchdowns and left the field a winner.
Snead is young and has only had this season to really play football (as opposed to true juniors Stafford and Tebow) and has showed us that he'll keep our passing offense at a truly competitive level over the next three seasons. Give him the credit he deserves, especially when he's just having a slow start to an early-day game.

Houston Nutt Q&A
Q: What is the biggest fish you've caught on your lake at your new house?
A: A three-pound bass
Whoa, watch out there. We wouldn't want people thinking this is Fayetteville. I mean, damn, take it easy on the guy, he just got here! Pretty soon we'll be asking him questions about last weeks sermon, his undoubtedly kickass corn salsa recipe, and his daughter's extracurricular activities. And we thought Arkansas was brutal!

SEC Media Days Picks
Take for example, the picks for SEC Champion. There were a total of 70 voters, each of which laid out their predictions for the final standings in the SEC East and West and then picked who would win the SEC Championship game. Florida took the cake with 36 votes, Georgia netted 18, Auburn 13, LSU 1, and Tennessee 1.
That makes 69. The final vote-getter for SEC Champion was none other than the Ole Miss Rebels. Seriously, somebody voted us to win the SEC Championship. Neither State, Kentucky, Vandy, Alabama, South Carolina nor Arkansas garnered a vote to be the SEC Championship game victor, yet somehow our Rebels did.
Who in the hell is behind this? Yancy? Chuck? The little black boy in Angels in the Outfield ("it could haaaaappen")? Some kid working for the DM who's attending Media Days for college credit? Who gets to vote in this thing? If anybody knows who is behind this, let us know. Right now, you're crazy. However, if in the miraculously bizarre off chance that you're right, you can rub it in our faces all damn day.
Post Scriptum - To you Spirit posters: we don't want the Rebels to fare poorly. Hell, I'd be the happiest bastard in Dixie if we were to win the SEC Championship, but if I were given one of 70 votes at SEC Media Days, I wouldn't it waste it on some homerific delusion. Half, if not most of the SEC is better than us nearly top to bottom. Deal with it.

Internets Available in Arkansas: Accessed by Hog Fans Part Deux
This of course is right in line with our constant bombardment of Tennessee and Duke boards to bash Cutcliffe and our online assault of Saints fans over Coach O...
Oh, wait. I forgot, we've got better things to do.
Frankly, I'm fed up with all of this hog slop. I've seen far too much of it and a great deal of it is poorly written, asinine, and lacking real creativity (much like this blog). Through a very brief period of web perusing, I have come up with prime examples of the kind of garbage that has caused me to lose whatever respect I may have had for Arkansas and its fans. I assure you this isn't the best stuff out there. Finding that would take hours of wading through this muck. Rather, I have just assembled a few snippets of Ozark rambling which typify this nonsense. All spelling, grammar, and punctuation is 100% the result of the original author and has not been edited.
Rivals.com and OMSpirit.com periodically clear their cache so shit talkin' from the period just after Nutt's hiring is not available. However, if you just search for these kinds of posts, you can find them.
"McKinneyHog(akathedonkey)" on Rivals writes:
Hey tulsa have you moved to Oxford yet to follow your man love yet? People on hogville really miss you. Not!!!!!!!! I have a degree in Physics not in English."Tulsa" is another user (TulsaHawg or something along those lines) who previously called out "The Donkey" on his poor spelling and grammar. Tulsa, wishing The Donkey to cease his poor usage of English in order to better the image of his alma mater, did not mention Houston Nutt or Ole Miss. "Nevermind that," McKinneyHog(akathedonkey) said, as he accused his fellow Hog fan of having "man love" for Houston Nutt so strong that he would move to Oxford to express it. The best/worst part about this post is the "Not!!!!!!!" he places after referencing what I am assuming are similar pissing fights on Hogville.
McKinneyHog(akathedonkey) doesn't understand...
If that's not bad enough, the poor bastard then begins to defend himself against the criticisms of his linguistic "skills" by proclaiming that he was a physics major, as opposed to an English major. I doubt it, McKinney. Y'see, physicists still read and write. Maybe you are a freshman soon-to-be-former physics major, but I doubt you've got a four year degree in anything, let alone physics.
RebelFaithful.com is different in that much of the original HDN bashing is still intact. If you would like to see prime examples of this stuff, you could spend hours reading the threads in their trash talk forum.
MusicCityHog writes:
Pig slop???? Nothing and I mean NOTHING is any slopier than an 0-8 SEC record....I hear that Nutt has brought in some 1 star recruits...I guess you Reb fans, coaches, and 1 star recruits are just so much smarter than the rest of us.He objected to the notion that his writing was "pig slop" on the grounds of our Rebels poor season being "slopy." I'm not sure what he means by that. Steep maybe? Anyway, this is a textbook example of a red herring fallacy so not only can this asshole not spell, but he is unable to form a logical argument. Also, he criticizes Coach Nutt's supposed inability to recruit. He'll be unpleasantly surprised to see Coach Nutt's recruits, namely Enrique Davis, dance all over their endzone and fuck their women, come October (maybe not, but seriously that would be fucking great).
PiggySmalls writes:
We SUCKED BALLS under nutt unless it was for matt jones dmac or felixI'm just going to leave the poor capitalization and word usage out of this and simply point out the fallacies of his argument. PiggySmalls asserts that Arkansas would have "sucked balls" without the three biggest stars and offensive weapons on the team over the last seven years. While that is a valid assertion, I doubt one could reasonably fault a coach who counts on his players to win games for him because, get this, that's what they all do. This is akin to people that want to discout Cutcliffe as a head coach because of the Mannings. While I'm not a Cutcliffe apologist, I do feel it absurd to say something like "well, without Eli he would have been shit."
Guitarguy writes:
Blank should keep his idiot mouth shut after sucking Vick off the way he did and then trading Shauve. WHat a dumba$$! HE needs to just get out of football all together and keep his trat shut. I doubt even Cuttcliff would want to coach the Atlanta thugansSo it's Arthur Blank's fault that Bobby Petrino is an Asshole? This nonsense drives me up the wall. I understand how one must be supportive of your head coach, especially your new head coach, but a lot of these Arkansas fans think that Bobby Petrino is justified in his unabashed douchedom. Oh, and by the way, it's Matt Schaub, you tool.
Then, of course, there's YouTube, the globe's largest bastion of idiocy. The comments here are usually quite brief (a phrase or two) yet somehow contain multiple baffling mistakes.
yuipas15975, a commentor on this video, writes:
nutt sucked and he will be worce at ol miss"Worce?" Seriously?!
kyNtiff, a commentor on the same video, writes:
houston you suck you trader
die!
I'm certain you've all seen this a few dozen times over the last couple of months. My advice to you, don't even worry about their "argument" or "points." Just point out their horrible spelling, grammar, and formatting. Really, you can't lose with this approach. Let 'em have it. You're better than they are and you fucking know it.

Schadenfreude: The Ultimate Moral Victory
This guy just literally loses the ability to stand. In addition, I cannot fail to mention the incredibly high number of grown men wearing jerseys.
Chef Boyardee is a Tiger fan? Anything involving Soulja Boy and "crankin' dat" makes me cringe.
Fuck that guy. Seriously. I don't care if he's ok or not. At Ole Miss, we've gotta take victories where we can get them and if that means mocking a guy who got his face smashed in by a table then so be it. Also, I know that there's another YouTube of this from a much closer camera angle. I've seen it before and if any of you have the link then please send it our way. A couple of us drunkenly searched for it last night and came up with nothing.

Don't blame Larry Templeton
For example, some posters on OMSPIRIT are upset:
Rebelinsured
"Screw dhed Templeton as there is NO doubt
his influence on our position this year and years past but this is the IDIOT'S last year and what better way than to stick it up his by winning the regional. Templeton hates Ole Miss and our AD has his head worried about pennies so that is why we continue to get screwed in the baseball seedings.......... Win the regional and tell Larry to &^%# %^$ as he is gone............ JMO ps---msuX screwed up by firing him........oajmho"
PositiveReb
Re: Screw dhed Templeton as there is NO doubt
"Remember, Pat Murphy also has a vote. So he and LT are probably in cahoots."
Instead of blaming the coach of this years team for our poor play and horrid performance at times, some Rebel fans want to lash out at selection committee members and coaches of other programs. Want to hold someone accountable, let it be Mike Bianco.
SEC Record over past 5 seasons:
2005: 18-12
2006: 17-13
2007: 16-14
2008: 15-15
We are getting worse every year!
Mike, you mean to tell me that your most talented team ever was a .500 team in the SEC?
So, if you are upset about our regional draw, get over yourself. If we wanted a regional, we should have played better and hosted our own.
Shame on you, Mike Bianco.

Concession Concerns...
Is it time for Ole Miss to upgrade concession at sporting events
I don't know who is responsible for concessions at Sporting events but I think it is time for an evaluation and changes to be made. I thought the concessions were decent at the baseball park...They had decent hamburgers and chicken tender basket with French Fries.......They service was ok. Chips would be nice to go along with the hamburgers but weren't available.
Football concessions? What a mess. They need to upgrade the facilities. OM should take a lesson in concessions from Auburn. They seem to get it right in terms of appearance, selection, service and quality of food. I wish someone could enlighten us as to how the concession contract is given. Surely, the University can require standards in terms of quality and selection of food offered. At the prices they charge, they can afford decent quality and selection. And one more thing, the University needs to upgrade the appearance and food safety of concession areas. I have been to high school football games who have better concession areas than Ole Miss.
I mean honestly... whoever it is that handles concessions at Ole Miss should be ashamed. Corky's? Hot dogs? FRENCH FRIES? NO CHIPS?!
How about some sort of chicken and pasta option? Also, there should be a wine tasting station. I don't think that's too much to ask at a baseball game. I think LSU has those things.
And you're right. Next on the list of athletic facilities to upgrade should be the Minute Maid frozen lemonade stand. That thing is downright embarrassing. We could at least brick or marble the front and make the pole that holds the umbrella into a column.
So in the end, it's a concession stand at a baseball or football game. I think I might like it less if the area was more aesthetically appealing. When I go to a game, I'm not going to the theatre. I'm going to watch someone hit someone or something... very hard. The aesthetics of a concession stand just really don't matter at all.

Suck it State...
Recently, two projected starters were kicked off of Mississippi State's football team for a gun-related incident.
One was Left Tackle Mike Brown who was really the only legitimate offensive tackle on the team (though Derek Sherrod isn't bad.) That's damning enough. The other player "released" was defensive tackle Quinton Wesley. MS-WHO? actually has depth at defensive tackle, so the loss of Wesley shouldn't be too detrimental to the team.
Now, out of nowhere, three players withdraw from school. All are rumored to have been involved in the same incident. These three players would utterly crush Mississippi State's chances next season. With last year's move of Derek Pegues to safety, Anthony Johnson is the best corner on State's team. Remember this?
Then there's Jamon Hughes, a definite starter at linebacker who played exceptionally well l
Tyler Hansbrough has a brother?
Speaking of players who won't be playing for MSU next season, PG Ben Hansbrough recently announced he plans to transfer. It doesn't make any sense. He played all the time, and MSU has been a successful team. This does not usually happen in programs that win. Some things are obviously going on behind the scenes. Do not be surprised to see Phil Turner transfer out as well. What's going on at Mississippi State? With Jamont Gordon probably going pro, Charles Rhodes graduating, Ben Hansbrough leaving and maybe Turner leaving, it will be the long-armed martian's team.

You're, You're-You're-You're, You're-You're-LAME!
"Yeah, totally! Like, OMFG NIT!?! We could have totally been in the tournament and Dubya-tee-eff is with Georgia in the SEC tourney huh??? LOL!"
Ok, yeah, that in its own right was embarrassing. We had some games in which we played like legit SEC title contenders (Vandy, TN) and some others which were bad enough to completely obliterate our chances at an NCAA berth (SoCar, Auburn^2). However, this is not the embarrassment of which I blog. Nay, I am talking about this embarrassment.
Your Honor, Exhibit ANOTE: I bought season tickets and Hotty-ed every Toddy, you assholes. I don't need to prove anything else to you. What's even worse is that you yell at our old, Sunday-school teaching alumni to stand up and scream like crazed banshees even when the white kids are on the court (see: winning handily). Just because we're not all gussied up like the Ultimate Warrior to see an exhibition game against Delta State does not mean we don't care.
What is even worse are the incredibly unoriginal and less-than-inspiring cheers this group has bestowed upon us. Borrowing anything from the New York Jets is pathetic and that nonsense they do when people foul is incredibly embarrassing.
Watching the NIT semifinal game on ESPN and hearing that racket literally made me ashamed to both cheer for the Rebels and to have ever been in the same student section as those clowns. Have you wondered why the only people that participate in these cheers are either a) in the band or b) standing within their immediate vicinity? I'm willing to guess it has to do with the fact that nobody wants anything to do with that shit, yet somehow they persist and persist upon doing it as if it is going to catch on like the HIV of cheers. They think they are great pioneers or trend setters in the unchartered waters of the Ole Miss basketball student section when really they are just pushy and annoying. And you know what is the worst thing of them all? Many of these kids don't really care about Ole Miss sports or basketball like the lot of us. A great deal of them are just attention whores. Take for example "highlighted-shirt-boy."
HSB here likes being on TV so much that he decided to show up extra early to get a front row seat right by the cameras. But that is not where his reign of douchedom ends. HSB thought that, instead of wearing a red shirt like EVERYONE ELSE, it would be rad to wear a highlighter yellow shirt so everyone at home on TV could see him. Oh no, dear reader, he hasn't only done this once or even twice; he's done it EVERY TIME WE ARE ON TV! It is this extreme level of pompous, supercilious bullshit which embarrassed me and many others to be associated with Ole Miss basketball these last few seasons. We're not Duke; we don't like basketball. We don't paint our faces or listen to techno or whore ourselves out to the Jefferson Financial cameraman. We drink, curse, and make love to our women and, on occassion, attend a basketball game if it doesn't interfere with our busy schedule of drinking, cursing, and making love to our women.Yes, jackasses with goofy cheers, we have a fairweather fanbase and yes, nobody in Oxford really gives two shits about basketball. It sucks. But you know what sucks even worse? Having to put up with people who think they can do something about it.

Pre-season Polls
"National title or bust. Georgia will probably be everyone's preseason No. 1 team, and maybe USC, Oklahoma, Florida, or a random other team will get a few nods for the top spot, but no team comes back as loaded or as talented as Ohio State. A win at USC might be a must to make the trip to Miami, and if this team really wants to be a national champion, that's a game it has to win."
Yeah. They're loaded alright... loaded with players that were stomped by Florida AND LSU (the first with a 41-14 devastating loss and the second with a more modest 38-24 loss that caused the reaction in the picture.) As the article so reasonably points out, UGA is the favorite headed into this season. Are they going to have to be the ones who bring down tOSU (the most talented team in America)?
Ohio State - Winless in bowls against SEC schools...
But this is not Ohio State's fault obviously. It's journalists like this that make things like this possible. Seriously, if I see another pre-season poll that puts tOSU in the top 5... heck, the top 10, I will make a call to one laser-sighted glock wielding ex-rebel/tiger and ask him to off the guy. The only thing this does is further demean a conference that was good at one time and just can't compete anymore.
