Re: Clayton Moore coming to Ole Miss

Heard the same thing about an unknown redhead in 1968 from Drew,Ms. He would never play a down of QB in front of Bob White and Brent Chumbler. White never played. "Shug" was a good QB. The redhead became a legend. Never say never someone once said.

And later, when someone pointed out the absurdity of THAT comparison:

Re: Clayton Moore coming to Ole Miss

Nobody equals Archie Manning. Clayton reminds me more of Bret Favre.

Oh God. A Bret (sic) Favre and Archie Manning comparison applied to the same 6'1" QB who got kicked off of his high school football team a few weeks ago. I think something snapped in my brain when I read this. It has to stop. Stop begging for stars for players already committed/likely to commit. Quit acting like every two star will follow in Patrick Willis' footsteps. Stop adding and subtracting stars from Ole Miss players who busted/panned out to make a point. Just. Fucking. Stop it.

There are two camps that have been at it lately on these message boards, both equally stupid:

First, the Playstation Camp. Football is a giant video game to these guys, and boy, do they like to recruit. If Demond Washington remained at 3 or 4 stars, he'd have been an uninspiring pickup for Ole Miss, but that 5th star will give him 96 speed, 85 awareness, and 80 hands, and he'll be the best cornerback we've ever had, especially given our historic luck with highly regarded JUCO prospects! This type of fan can get pretty annoying. Playstation guys are already drawing up depth charts for the next six years at Ole Miss, and stacking them against the schedules for those years and our respective historic records against those opponents, and yadda yadda bullshit. Here's the deal guys: life is not predictable and manipulable like a video game or a math equation. Shit happens. Personalities, attitudes, injuries, motivation, officiating, weather, and a billion other factors all go into this random system of events that encompass the success or failure of a sports program. Stop trying to figure it out in your head. But hey, your annoyances are at least founded in logic and information, albeit largely qualitative. At least you aren't:

The 'Little Giants Guy.' Or the 'Rudy Guy,' or whatever your favorite 'ragtag bunch of misfits' sports movie may be. Look here, Little Giants Guy: had Archie Manning played high school ball in 2008, it is much more likely, even in his small town, that his talents would have been recognized. Recruiting was a shotgun blast in those days. You signed a bazillion kids and figured out who would be decent. The rest could change position or just go fuck themselves. Now, we have a pretty invasive media machine that does a decent job of evaluating talent. Clayton Moore is not Archie Manning or Brett Favre. Most two star linebackers aren't Patrick Willis. It just doesn't happen much anymore, as recruiting experts find that there is more and more money in this game, and the bulk of it goes to whomever can find the best information the fastest. So stop acting like every Ole Miss two star is a diamond in the rough. If you haven't noticed, we have our fair share of backup players on the team who will never play a significant down. We'll have some of those guys in this class and every class from here on. There are only 22 starters, and only a handful of star players amongst them. Prospects are all, to some degree, limited by physical potential, so quit getting excited over 6 foot quarterbacks that aren't fast, doughy looking, 6'3" offensive tackles, and cornerbacks with offers from Ole Miss and Idaho. Those guys aren't going to be good, almost certainly.

Sorry for the rant, but I sometimes can't help wandering away from Nafoom because I want to read about football instead of grills, divorces, shitty movies, etc. Then I see that shit on the Spirit, pop an aspirin, and take a nap, like I'm about to do right now. Have a good day, everyone. Except for you, RedClayReb. You get off the computer, go to WalMart, and buy a damn clue. That is all.

RSC Recruiting Tidbit/Snippet/Update/War Room/Bit of Tid/RSCUMOR

I was at a study session tonight for an exam and was talking to the kid across from me about the bowl game and travel plans, etc. when it came up that he was from Louisville and played football there. Being the information craved recruiting fiend that I am I inquired about the Spirit Board's love child, Clayton Moore, and Dennis Thames.

According to my "source" (I can have them too, Yancy, and they are no more credible than your opinion) Clayton Moore is a huge prick and the problem from that playoff game was mainly his fault. The coaches corrected him and blew up on the coaches and the coaches told him to hit the showers. Moore came back out cussing up another storm and the coaches had him escorted off the field. The players held a meeting the following day to see if Moore should play in the state championship game and they voted no. Why? Because he is apparently a huge prick to the majority of the team and really cocky.

I know that most of that is Germans/Volkswagonku/whatever cutesy, lame response you want, but I thought it was pretty interesting.

I also asked him about Dennis Thames and he said that he tried to get him to come to Ole Miss while he was at Louisville but he didn't think things looked too good with Thames. He mentioned Oklahoma State, Michigan, State, and said Thames can pretty much go wherever he wants to and is not going to let Moore dictate his decision.

The more you know. Back to the books.

Also, just to clarify from some confusion this summer, Thames' dream date is not Buyownce, favorite food is not spagiti, and he's not a big fan of Maddon when it comes to video games. Just letting you know, YP!

Thank You.... Thank You

Improved

Yancy can't help what the kid actually said, but he did a much better job putting that together. I wonder if he might have read the blog...

Yancy Porter - Hipster...

Here's the most recent post (it's free) in Yancy's series of top 40 players in MS. I'm going to dissect the article to acknowledge some changes that we should hope for in the future. Do they have editors for these things? I have, by the way, eliminated the parts of his article that were done well. I did that shamelessly to fit my agenda.

"LSU : 'They send a lot of WR's to the league and they compete for titles every year.'"

Commas are wonderful things. Most people use them to join two independent clauses. Yancy apparently hates them.

"USM: 'They are suppose to throw the ball this year. I went to their spring game and they threw it a lot.'"

SUPPOSED to... Comma

"Favorite pro football player: Antoin Bolden"

My guess is that he said Anquan Boldin. Boldin is a wide receiver for the Arizona Cardinals. Amazing what 15 seconds on espn.go.com can get you. (Though real football fans should actually know who that is anyway).

"Favorite Food:Chicken Spagitti"

Seriously? That's how we're spelling spaghetti now?

"Favorite Video: NCAA '08"

This has gotten to me every time. NCAA '08 is not a video. It's a video game.

"Biggest Influences: Father"

The word "father" is singular. The word "influences" is not.

"First thing if I sign pro contract: By parents a new house"

Look... you can go by your parents' new house. You can buy your parents a new house. You cannot by your parents a new house.

I know that people are going to get pissed at me. I'm sure there will be uproar on a certain message board. Before anyone says it, I'm happy for what Yancy does for us too... blah blah blah. I just ask for more diligence in providing a service that we PAY for. Why anyone would care what Patrick Patterson's dream date is I cannot understand, but still... if you're going to report it, do it well. In short, nobody really cared about these things when this (thanks NAFOOM) was your competition. But now, this is your competition. Step it up. While those sorts of things may look good "on the hoof", they're not going to cut it anymore.

Maybe I'm "making a mountain out of a mole," but it would really take 4 or 5 minutes to proofread every article for easy to catch mistakes. I'm not asking to make sure that no sentence ends in a preposition or anything (though I try to catch those). I'm just asking people to spell spaghetti correctly and maybe, just maybe, know the difference between prepositions and verbs.

Also, I'm sure someone will try to find grammatical errors in my post. Please, when you do, pay me ten dollars a month to read the blog. Just remember, "when all is said and done," I'm just trying to improve things.

EDIT: We realize the article criticized in this post can be viewed free of charge. We used it because it is free and therefore a very public display of what we're griping about.

SECOND EDIT: Macon, the city in our state, is spelled that way. It is not spelled "Mecan".
