Internets Available in Memphis (Public Libraries); Accessed by Tiger High Alums

Losing to LSU is never fun, but is accepted, any loss to State stings for quite some time, but nothing gets to me more than not being able to beat these BCS rejects down in Memphis.

The talking heads on Memphis radio and the UTK rejects on MemphisTigers.org start spewing their delusional and ill-informed opinions regarding the Ole Miss game around this time every year.

Today’s example comes courtesy of MT.org poster, MemphisCanes.

"For all that they toute their recievers, ours are head and shoulders (figuratively AND literally) above theirs."

You win Tiger fans, those receivers (“I” before “e” except after “c”) that we constantly “toute” are not as tall as Carlos Singleton. Let us take a look at some statistics though, and remember you run a pass happy offense in the CUSA while we had two incompetent rejects playing quarterback for us last season.

Last season your top three receivers were Duke Calhoun (14 ypc), Carlos Singleton (15.0 ypc), and Stephen Black (11 ypc). Our top three WRs were Shay Hodge (14 ypc), Mike Wallace (19 ypc), and Dexter McCluster (12 ypc). These stats seem pretty even to me. I will give you the advantage in WRs, but your guys are not as good as you all make them seem to be, with the exception of Duke Calhoun.

"Oher is an anchor, but one lineman does not a line make."

Does not a line make? Really? Was that just some cute way of trying to make your point or your fine Memphis education? And you are correct in saying one lineman does not make an offensive line. That is why we have guys like pre-season second team All-SEC John Jerry, returning starter Reid Neely, and veterans Darryl Harris and Mo Miller. To steal a quote from an Ole Miss poster on MT.org, "Our offensive line has had more books written about them than your basketball team has read."

In reality, their squad has more question marks than ours. New Coach, new QB, new RB, and a suspect D.

No arguments here except for you bit about suspect defense. The only thing suspect about our defense is going to be the cornerback position. Our front seven boasts 4 All-American or All-SEC candidates and one of the top incoming linebackers in the nation. Again, there is nothing terribly wrong with your statement, but the next part of the sentence (term used loosely considering your last one lacked a verb) is what explains why UTK denied your application and your attendance at Tiger High. It is so ludicrous I am going to have to break it down piece by piece.

“The Tigers have an experienced QB who should be able to plug right in to our system.”

How can you call Arkelon Hall an experienced QB? It is beyond me. We may have a new QB, but at least it is one who has played in a division one-football game against a BCS opponent for the Texas Longhorns. Also, judging by Hall’s less than sterling 6-14 performance, it looks like he has some work to do. However, you probably did not see that because only 800 people went to the game. That is how you support a program!

You cannot win an argument by saying Ole Miss has question marks at positions A, B, and C and then turn around and say the new (read: unproven) players Memphis has coming at the same positions make us a better team, which you proceed to do.

“Walton, our DC, has studied at defensive powerhouses like LSU and Miami, and has brought in considerable JUCO talent this year.”

Our last head coach studied at national powerhouses like Miami and USC, but he could not coach his way out of a paper bag. He still managed to beat you three times in three years. Weird.

And I would love to know this considerable JUCO talent that is coming in this year. Last I heard your prized recruit from Clemson decided North Dakota State was a better fit for him, Tim Mcgee failed his needed summer classes, and no one else on your commitment list looks like they are worth a damn. Your team, especially on defense, is nothing more than a bunch of other team’s rejects who averaged giving up 32 points per game this past season. Oh, and you lost to Arkansas State 35-31.

Add to that our new blood at RB, which should only do more to juice our offense, and I can't really see what Missy fans are so confident about.

So us having new RBs is a negative, but your new running backs are going to put you over the top? I do not think so. You are sending out Curtis Steele, a between the tackles type of runner, with your spotty offensive line against our front seven. I will not even bring up the guy we signed.

“I guess home field advantage must be worth alot in their minds.”

It sure does when you compare it to your home field advantage.

The part about the proven quarterback made me laugh out loud at work.

Dude, same shit every year. Complete waste of time getting worked up over it. They're more delusional than gene swindoll on acid. Ed Orgeron was 3-0 against them, enough fucking said. You lose all respectability when you can't beat a team whose coach lead them to losses against Wyoming (at home), and lost 2 of 3 to Vanderbilt and Mississippi St. Such a shame this "storied rivalry" will come to an end soon.

I wouldn't say we're getting too "worked up" over it.

It's July, what the fuck else are we to write about?

Ghost,

You could write about all the recruits your boy Nutt is losing out on.

Anonymous, talk to us state's balling recruiting class when you get a guy like this...

Recruiting smack....Ole Miss played recruiting smack into a paltry 1-14 SEC West record since 05. We had a lot of alleged recruiting stars but no wins.

This will be the last year of losing out on recruits to Crooms. Book it.

Brent Schaeffer had better JUCO stats than Arkelon Hall.

Glad to finally be done with these yahoos. I've got to stop reading all this stuff... just infuriates me more and more... I'll have to quarantine myself till the week of the 30th.. ha.

You guys are funny. You think Ole Miss is "all that". Yeah, Orgeron beat us 3 years in a row by an average of 3 points per game. We coulda/shoulda won all of them (IMO) and I assure you we are embarrassed to have lost to the big "O", but we'll get over it.
Honestly, I'm not proud of my Tiger football over the last couple of years - losses to Ark St, MTSU, etc. SUCK, but we just weren't that good. Still, your all-powerful SEC/BCS squads were fortunate to eak out the victories that they did.
Ole Miss' tradition and heritage trumps the Tigers (in football, anyway), no doubt. However, the series has been pretty even over the last 20-30 years, with many close games and wins in each team's win column.
You guys really have no reason to belittle us. Sorry, but you are much more our peers than you are peers to the upper echelon of your own conference.
It should be a good game on 8/30. In the grand scheme of things, neither team is really that good.

Its July, so its obviously time for delusional Ole Miss fans to dust off the 'ol ghost of football seasons past...July and August are truly the best time of year to be a Rebel sports fan. Listening their inane ramblings for the first time, one would never know there is entire generation of Ole Miss faithful that have no firsthand memory of a Rebel athletic program having a season of national significance. For those of us outside of the Rebel family, it is a bit like reading a historical marker in a dump like Holly Springs and then learning the $hithole was once a major rail hub or trading post. You look around and think "No effin' way", but then how do you argue with a historical marker? So, congrats Rebel fans, you have a football program that has essentially shrunk to the status of king of the dip$hits and worthy of nothing more than a plaque stating it was once, believe it or not, a program of some significance. Now, its a program content in waiting on the front porch for its confernce welfare check.

Losing three seasons in a row to the one of the worst head coaches of all time, must hurt just a little bit... Damn.

"one would never know there is entire generation of Ole Miss faithful that have no firsthand memory of a Rebel athletic program having a season of national significance."

That's a crock of shit if I've ever heard one. Season of national significance? Try three straight super regionals, being ranked through-out most of those seasons...Winning the SEC tournament in 2006.. AK coming in and winning a share of the SEC West title in his FIRST year.. God I hate to bring it up but.. obviously you remember, stealing a game from us in 03 then going 10-3 with a Cotton Bowl Victory.

Oh but wait.. If it's not in basketball it must not matter right?

Hsvtiger:

Man I hope it's a great game.. nice to see a cordial fan from up there every once in awhile.

"Ghost,

Why is that directed at me? I haven't ever written about recruits/recruiting or any of that hoopla. It's all smoke and mirrors to me.

and so it goes, and fittingly so...
a solitary seasoning-ending trip to the once-grand, but long since marginalized, Cotton Bowl. The best Rebel season in 40 years ends in a bowl game with every bit as much national relevancy as the once-proud program that boastfully played in it. A relevant program like LSU, Auburn, or Texas would look at the Cotton Bowl as a consolation prize for a decent season, but Ole Miss fans view it with the same reverance as they do the aging Mary Ann Mobley.
God help you, but when you are left to crow about baseball super regional near misses and 8-8 basketball seasons, then you do nothing but reinforce my point. there is no truer line for you folks than "Old times there are not forgotten"

Much like you view your yearly match up in New Orleans with the Sun Belt Champions or the fourth best team in the MAC as a major accomplishment. Blow me.

The One That Got Away said...

"That being said the only post I read by Ole Miss fans must include the screen name Rebel Bruiser or even Draelius. They usually make good points and state facts. The other fans they have are imbasols."

That was posted in response to my post on MT.org. I hope you are proud.

Because I can't comment on that board, I just want to point out that their new QB signee/transfer Tyler Bass ran a 4.97 at the scout camp his senior year. That doesn't seem like much mobility to me.

I think it's sad that you all get worked up over Memphis, a basketball, not football, powerhouse. I think it is more a reflection of Mississippi football than it Memphis football, lol.

Holy fuck, that school sucks.

As a UGA fan, it's a little odd to see such a long-winded post about Memphis football. In theory, with the financial resources and recruiting advantages the Ole Miss football program has (basketball is a different story, of course), you would expect to the Rebs to dominate them regularly, rather than squeak by each year.

he meant will hudgens in the qb. tj pitts will be a 1000 yard rusher this season. and both carlos the freak and duke calhoun will play in the nfl.We also have great offensive line with vsome all-cusa selections

where are all the rebel flags? where is Col Reb? better still, where has all the tradition gone at a once proud mississippi?

0-8 in conference play play last year, 3-21 over the last 3 years..

Forsake your history and bad things will follow-

To the UGA fan:

I am the only poster on this site that gets worked up over the Memphis game in excess only because I use to live in Memphis and had to deal with their fan base on a regular basis whether it was in school, talk radio, or the CA.

And you are right, we should be dominating Memphis given the circumstances, but we have not been able to beat them easily since the 2002 game in VHS, and even that game was close for awhile.

First off, I'm a die hard Tiger fan who hates Ole Miss.

Secondly, I'm one of the few level headed Tiger fans who understands where we stand: at the bottom.

We can't compete in the SEC. We barely get through C-USA.

Lastly, if he was talking about Hudgens being our QB, we're going to be worse than I think we are. He'll break something or tear something on the 3rd play of the season. If Hall isn't better than Hudgens, the we have no chance of being good.

Anonymous said...

That is not quite true ajohnson. While we haven't been a very good program the last few years the Tigers aren't at "the bottom". More like middle. I think what most Tiger fans get pissed about (regarding Ole Miss) is that they live in the past. Memphis is behind in the football arena but the talent gap that used to be there is much smaller. I do expect Ole Miss to be much more relevent in the SEC with Nutt at the helm.
