Fat Tuesday's Rebel Roundup

Yessir, the only day when an Ole Miss Rebel can act like an LSU Tiger and not hate him/herself afterwards. I hope you're all celebrating somehow, whether it be in Oxford, the Big Easy, or at points beyond as a part of the Rebel diaspora. To ease you through the day like an oversized-cinnamon-roll-stuffed-with-cream-cheese induced coma, here are some links:

Baseball Stadium Ready? - Apparently so, as the Rebels and their new fancified digs are set to take on Central Arkansas for the 2009 home opener. One of our baseball correspondents should fill you in later on today assuming that they're not still grieving this past weekend's losses.

Michael Oher and Eugene Monroe Don't like Weightlifting - That's what I gather from this. I mean, c'mon, they've got to be stronger than that, right? I doubt this absolutely kills the big man's draft stock, but it could (and has already to a certain extent) damage it significantly. On another note, Peria isn't participating in all of the combines workouts because he either doesn't want to hurt his draft stock or thinks all of this running and jumping is "gay, dawg."

Ole Miss Featured on College Football Live Yesterday - They're doing some fancified countdown or something. Anyway, here's what was shown, courtesy of ReplayReb (as always). ESPN analysts love Houston Nutt and Jevan Snead which is a welcome change of pace for this bloggeur.

Late February Draft Talk

A few notes we've gathered from Friends of the Cup (FotC) and the Arpatubes:

-Mike Oher's stock has been falling, along with his counterpart of the Crimson Tide, Andre Smith. Apparently their physical strengths and work ethics have come into question. Many scouts now have Baylor's Jason Smith and/or Virginia's Eugene Monroe ahead of the SEC heavyweights on their big boards. Of course, many others still see them as the top tackle prospects so it's still anybody's guess as to where they'll end up come April.

-Mike Wallace is crazy fast. He turned in one of the fastest speeds for a receiver at the combine and has certainly helped his draft stock on pure athleticism alone. The word is that his route running skills aren't NFL level (hell, they weren't college level) but that hasn't kept him out of the picture as a late-first-day/early-second-day pick.

-Peria Jerry should still be a first round pick. He doesn't have incredible lower body strength when compared to other top DT's, but the scouts can't get over his film, attitude, and motor. I think a team running a base 3-4 would be well served to see him at SDE but maybe I'm way off on this one.

Some Morning YouTube, Perhaps?

First off, we've got some videos of Oher and P. Jerry put together by DraftParty, a YouTube highlights reel of sorts for potential early-round draftees.

Next we have Craig Drummond's 2007 highlights. Why 2007? Well, I'm pretty sure he sat out most of 2008 with an injury. When you consider the fact that he was an Army All-American this past year, you've got to assume he earned that distinction based mostly on his impressive Junior campaign.

Damn. We've got ourselves a good one. In the video, you'll see what looks like a highschool senior who snuck onto the field for a few JV games. That's Drummond.

His talent is raw, but he's got an excellent frame and incredible potential. The first few minutes of highlights all seem to come from the exact same game which, if that indeed be the case, truly demonstrates how dominant Drummond is on the highschool level.

My biggest issue with that video was the actual video itself. Who in the hell put that together? Flying cassette tapes? Wacky, 3D popcorn graphics? C'mon, highschool highlight tapes can do without all of that frilly nonsense.

Unless, of course, Craig Drummond himself put it together.. If that's the case then Bravo, good sir! Well done!

Rebels at the Senior Bowl

Peria Jerry, Mike Oher, Ashlee Palmer and Mike Wallace all represented the Rebs in last night's Senior Bowl. The South handily defeated the North (TSWRA whooooooo!) to the tune of 35-18. Mike Wallace pulled in a 39 yard touchdown pass from West Virginia's Pat White and Peria Jerry recovered a Rhett Bomar fumble in the North endzone for 6. According to our Senior Bowl correspondents, Oher was good for the most part except for a holding call and Palmer had very few if any opportunities to make a play on defense. They also told us that Mobile is scary with all of the drunks, hurricanes, and Leprechauns hiding in strategic-ass trees.

The game's stats can be found here and the highlights here.

Also, did everybody else know before last night that Mike Wallace was going to be in this game, or am I just out of the loop? He definitely improved whatever draft stock he had.

Hi. My name is Peria... We've met before.

"Now, please, get the fuck out of my way."

Click here to see Peria Jerry ruin Herman "The House" Johnson of LSU at the NFL Senior Bowl practice. While the NFL Network commentators verbally fellate the LSU guard and really only mention Jerry in passing, it's still a pretty fun video. If you look through the other videos you'll be able to catch glimpses of Mike Oher and Ashlee Palmer along with Jerry. If you've got time to kill, go for it.

Rebel Roundup - Sr. Bowl and 2009 Schedule talk

Draft Stock Rising for Jerry, Palmer; Falling for Oher - Click here, here, and here for some Senior Bowl coverage. As one would expect, Ashlee Palmer and Peria Jerry are ruining whatever poor sons-of-bitches they're up against in the Senior Bowl practices. Unfortunately, Michael Oher hasn't been as impressive. Hopefully Oher will get out of whatever slump he appears to be in.

The Kansas Jayhawks to Highlight the Rebel OOC Schedule in 2009? - We're hearing rumors which would lead us to believe that the Rebels will be playing the Kansas Jayhawks in 2009. If this is indeed true, the matchup will be held in Dallas at the New Cowboys Stadium (is that really what they're calling it?) with a guaranteed payout of $6 million for each team. I know a lot of folks have been hearing that such a matchup would be held against Texas A&M or Colorado, but this matchup makes the most sense. Both teams will be looking to beef up their OOC slate in order to impress the BCS computers and both programs would draw just enough to attract a good TV deal and some serious cash. Bring it on, Big XII.

Nice shoes, bird.

Greg Hardy will be back

We said it before, but then heard otherwise, but then heard otherwise once more, and then we found some angst-filled poem or some shit scrawled out on a moleskine page which confused us even more so....

Well, shit. I'm not even willing to say he's coming back anymore. Word is that Coach Nutt has, in fact, convinced Hardy to return, heal up, be a badass, ruin quarterbacks, and make big time NFL dollars in next years draft.

Believe it if you will. I'm waiting until after the draft as a precaution to preserve my fragile, Rebel expectations.

RSCumor, and it's a BIG one

According to a source of ours who is very well connected to the football program, Greg Hardy is going to stay in Oxford for his senior season. Please, please, please let this be true, sports Gods. You absolutely owe us.

Hell, ESPN is in on it too.

As per Ivory Tower's observations, Mike Oher, Greg Hardy, and Peria Jerry are getting mad props from the "draft gurus." Even Todd McShay of ESPN has Oher and Hardy going in the first round.

Of course, none of this means anything until Mel Kiper opines on the matter. If he does, in fact, hop aboard the "Oher-Hardy-Jerry" express to First Round Town, we should win more than 0 SEC games this year. I know, I'm not setting the bar high, but I think we're all lucky that I'm even setting the damn thing at all.

I appreciate ESPN giving me this helmet and all but...
...have they looked at my hair?
