Arkansas Recap

Fuck you, Whiskey Wednesday.  I am going to give my thoughts on the game before you do three days after the game.  I am in Atlanta this weekend after watching an ACS high school football game and 3/4ths of a bottle of whiskey into the night and these are my thoughts.

I will address the biggest issue of this game to start off the recap.  Yes, that offensive pass interference call was a load of crap.  Here is the thing though, I do not care.  Do not bring your complaining here because we will not want to hear it.  The receiver did put two hands on the back of Marshay "I look like a Gremlin and cannot play coverage" Green and whether or not he pushed him is up for debate.  (he did not push him)

I was pretty disappointed with the tackling by the defense, especially Kendrick Lewis.  He may have led the team in tackles but he missed at least three tackles that I can recall off the top of my head that led to long Michael Smith runs.  Also, while we were are talking about Kendrick, why can he not catch the ball?  He is a converted wide receiver and has the worst hands in the secondary.  Last season I remember him dropping two easy pick offs against Alabama and Florida and the one tonight against Casey Dick was pathetic.  Yes, Fon Ingram redeemed him the next play, but you cannot excuse drops like that.

One defensive player not to be disappointed with is Peria Jerry. Jerry had two great sacks against Dick and seemed to be causing problems for the Arkansas line all night.  Another player I felt had a good night was Allen Walker.  Walker may or may not have shown up on the stat sheet but I saw him in on several plays and he pressured Dick on multiple passes.

Say what you want about Nutt, but he does not tolerate bonehead plays.  Patrick Trahan had that retarded personal foul in the first quarter and I cannot remember him re-entering the game after it.  Also, we are in desperate need of corner backs.  Ours are a joke.

The offense performed decently.  Jevan finished 14-27 with 209 yards and 2 tds and one pick and the running back by committee ended with 160 yards.  Some improvement would be nice for the Auburn game, but their offense is about as pathetic as RanchReb chilling at the Levee on the weekends.

I hope you all enjoy Bobby Petrino for however long he decides to stay on board, which probably will be awhile because no one seems to want him.  I agree with your arguments about Houston.  The guy is so boring and only runs the ball.  I mean it is not like Jevan has the fourth best ypg average in the SEC or anything.  Seriously, all you inbreds can go back to your double wides and enjoy your Billy Beer and yearly vacations to Hardy, Arkansas.

Thanks for Houston and enjoy last place in the West you fuckers.

P.S. Thanks for the memories Tyrone and Phil!

Yeah, yeah, fuck off, last two games I've been at work either trying to sneak looks at the TV or sneaking out to the car to turn on the radio. Didn't feel particularly qualified to write a post game report for the consumption of people who actually saw it. About all I gleaned from this game was that if we aren't bribing some cornerback recruits, we need to be.

And hey, Yancy, they're called contractions. They connect two words that commonly sound run together in spoken English, like 'do not.' Use that shit, dawg.

our corner's have been playing absolutely awful. I guess the fact that Marshay has (A) earned a starting job, and (B) not lost it after playing so badly, are indicators of just how undermanned we are at CB. I would love to sign a couple talented CB's, that's a position where freshmen can realistically come in and contribute right away.

Nice ranchreb reference.

Congrats Rebel fans, you won a hard fought game.

Some will grip about the terrible interference call at the end, but the Hogs really didn't do enough the other 59 minutes of the ball game to win.

Piera Jerry was a man last night, and the Reb's offense was consistant enough on 3rd down to help control the clock.

Nutt, as usual, tried to sat on the lead in the 4th qr., and almost blew it for the Rebels, as he did last year in Tuscaloosa against the Tide.

Congrats on your win Rebel fans, but your coach still sucks Hog's ass.

If you think the Rebs didn't get fucked by a call last night then you are dumber than Hogville.

Oh, and your coach (for now) sucks too.

Snead was having an erratic game.

Perhaps Nutt had too much faith in our pass defense, but I don't blame him for bleeding the clock and depriving his opponent of all their timeouts with less than three minutes to go.

This wasn't like Cutcliffe sitting on the ball in the final minutes of regulation in the seven-overtime game. Snead has potential, but he's not Eli Manning.

The One That Got Away said...

You talk about Houston only sitting on the lead, but do you not remember the play the ultimately won the game for Ole Miss when Snead went deep down the sideline to Mike Wallace? Calling for a play like that does not seem to be sitting on the lead if you ask me.

Bob said...

If Snead progresses like we can only hope he will and Ryan Mallett is as good as advertised, those will be the two best quarterbacks in the West over the next few seasons.

Rebs and Hogs, please don't score 50 points on us. It seems to be the thing to do these days.

Wrong week to give up drinking. Again.

Congratulations on the win Ole Miss fans. I'll never change your mind on what you think about Nutt, and you'll never change my mind so let's just skip that part.

But why was Nutt showered in water or Gatorade or whatever the hell it was after beating the last place team in the SEC West? What does that say about your own program? I'm not trying to start shit, but does that not bother you Ole Miss fans?

ericwindham said...

Not trying to start shit? Riiight.

Maybe b/c our players knew how much this win meant to their coach.

Show some class, guys. You know that the stripes handed you that ballgame. And before some of you debate that, I was standing only FEET away from the passing interference call in direct view of it.

Odd that the flag came from 30 yards downfield instead of from the official that was standing right on top of the two players. Odd itself in the fact that the coverage player was holding onto the receiver's jersey (grasping through to the shoulder pads) before he ever turned to look at the ball. Odd that even the National media has discussed the (and I quote) "questionable call" (which we all know means "bad call") both Saturday night and this Sunday morning. We will not even get into the official that "attempted" to blow the onside kick call. [Okay, I threw that one in there for fun.]

Good writing on your part, especially in your honesty about the call, but the insults about trailers and hillbillies (especially from a hypocritical Mississippi) are played-out. Bring something fresh and funny while being professional; I would laugh at respect that, my friend.

Now, let's hear your responses that start with or contain the word 'odd.'

Respect to you, and congrats on the victory.

Ok ericwindham. I guess Rod forgot that Ole Miss is the only SECW team not to play in the SEC Championship game. Congrats, you beat an awful Arkansas team. You should be proud.

Put on your salmon colored pants and go run around town.

ericwindham said...

But the Hogs played in the SEC Champ. game didn't they? And who took them there? You ungrateful bastards.

All I did was point out the guy was trying to start shit and give a possible explanation as to why our players poured the gatorade on Nutt. You guys are full of class.

"But why was Nutt showered in water or Gatorade or whatever the hell it was after beating the last place team in the SEC West? What does that say about your own program?"

We didn't win a single game in conference last season. Have all of you dimwits forgotten this? The players are likely going to overreact to every SEC victory this season because of how horrible last season was. Let them have their fun.

The Red Cup Admin said...

Say what you will about bad calls and what not, but if Arkansas had played like they played in the 4th quarter for the first three quarters you wouldn't need to be making any excuses.

Also, we've lost so many games on bad calls, that it seriously feels very, very good to win because of one.

Erik said...

It was not a bad call. Watched the replay today from every angle...London pushed with both arms in Marshay's back...Pretty cut and dry actually.

Anonymous said...

It sound's to me like some people are over-reacting for nothing.

For a change, I agree with red solo cup admin this time. Let them (the players) have thier fun.
They won, we lost, it's as simple as that.

Sure there were some bad calls in the end, but aren't those usually the one's that everybody notices the most?

If the Hogs take care of buisiness throughout the game, none of the heroics at the end are even needed.

It's no secret how most Hog fans feel about Ole Miss's coach, but that has nothing to do with what thier players accomplished on the field, so once again, congrats.

Hayden Hodges said...

It's in the past, but Erik, the video has been reviewed already by professionals. Guess what? Football wizards are saying that there were two horrible calls - actually, one bad call, one bad no call with the armbar forcing the reciever out of bounds.

And yes, "armbar" is the proper terminology.

Seriously, congrats on the win. Big for your program.

The real victory here, and for all parties involved, is that the asshat from KC didn't fly the banner.

I agree that our d backs are awful, but I saw some bad defensive play calling that really concerned me. Some of the zone schemes were terrible. Especially on the last scoring drive for Ark, 4 plays in 53 seconds. Pitiful. I have some real concerns about Tyrone Nix, I know that the talent isnt great, but good coordinators adjust to what they have, and I dont think he has done that yet. But I'll take the win.

Hayden Hodges said...

That's spot-on, rh0d3$@r.

KidHottyToddy, what's the recruting/future at DB looking like at Ole Miss?

Thanks.

The One That Got Away said...

Right now we have commitments from Dele Junaid (2 star) Demond Washington (4 star) and have plenty of players in the secondary interested in us right now. All of those players from Gulliver Prep, David Conner and some other CBs i cannot remember.

Anonymous said...

Spare me, Hayden Hodges. A big win for our program? It was a conference win - nothing more, nothing less other than the fact that we don't have to hear a bunch of stupid shit from some of your more phychotic internet posters for the next 12 months.

As someone has already pointed out, as many times as we've been fucked in the ass by SEC officials over the years, I really don't care if the call was good or not.

But, if we insist on talking about the officiating, how about the shitload of no-calls you guys got on blatantly obvious holds by your off. linemen? Dick should've been sacked twice as many times.

Erik said...

Sorry hayden. I didn't know professional "football wizards" had already reviewed it??? I guess I don't read enough Hogville.

Big for our program? Beating a top 5 Florida in the Swamp was "big for our program."

Beating a team that barely scraped by Western Illinois and Louisiana Monroe is just another "W".

ericwindham said...

That's right Rod, they wear pink and beat Razorback ass at the same time.

Grow up, Erik, you give Ole Miss fans a bad name.

And no, Erik Poindexter,....nevermind, trying to keep an interesting conversation with you is pointless. Your inability to comprehend varying verbage is... well, to keep it simple for you - poor.

And no, I do not post at Hogville. I do, however, know (allow me to be descriptive here since words like "wizards" are too broad for you) SEVERAL analysts (people that analyze, Erik) of football that make a tidy living that way (they earn money by doing it, Erik), and EVERY ONE of them has stated that it was a bad call. {The word 'bad' is substituting for the word 'wrong' in this last sentence, Erik] You would be amazed at the number of top-notch ESPN guys (men, Erik, perhaps you can also cross-reference and use the word 'analysts' again) that you can find and talk to about sports in the streets of Fayetteville. [The expression "find in the streets" means that they live there, Erik]

And as far as the "just another 'W'" that you mentioned. You might want to rethink that phrase; your team hasn't had an abundance of them to claim one as "just another" one.

The next time we cross paths (discuss sports over the Internet, Erik) and I try to be civil to you, you might rethink being a smart(donkey, Erik); I might not be so nice (nice, Erik - get a dictionary [book of words and their meanings] if you don't get that one). Not that I'm anything to worry about; I'm pretty easy to get along with.

And speaking of worrying...don't...I won't comment or even look in this section again except to thank the civil fans that have decent replies and good takes (opinions, Erik).

Take care of yourself.

To the rest of you: the one that got away, thanks for the info on your defensive back recruiting. I hope that it gets better for you.

ssmund, thanks for your response and opinion. Seriously.

And, Erik, watch that play from all of the angles starting from the line of scrimmage, then feel free to get back to me.

Later guys. God Bless. Good luck in the remainder of the season.

You win, hayden. 11 paragraphs? Realy? No, wait. It was still a two handed push in the back. You lose.
