Post game tidbits

Whiskey Wednesday will (hopefully) deliver his usual, profanity-laden post game report as soon as he wakes from his somewhat comatose state. Until then, I'll give you these post game tidbits.

1. Terrence "Mount" Cody is an overrated pile of adipose tissue with skin stitched over it. He was certainly not the factor he's been made out to be. Also, we ruined his knee which is one of those things that makes you, as an Ole Miss fan, shamefully grin. We've gotta take 'em where we can get 'em. Below is some footage of Mount Cody in Tuscaloosa yesterday.

2. Jevan Snead stepped it up big time against the Tide. Those runs in the 4th quarter were ballsy and took real athleticism. He showed great arm strength and stood tall in the pocket despite fighting a tough uphill battle. The incomplete pass to end the game was likely a communication issue between he and McCluster. That's a nice segue into my next point...

3. Dexter, srsly... Don't throw the ball anymore. Stop fumbling. Ole Miss fans really love you. We at the Cup love you. But you've gotta stop ending crucial drives because of thoughtless slip-ups.

4. Greg Hardy wears special shoes? What the fuck is that all about? Considering his recent foot surgery it makes some sense, but just the idea of a big scary bastard like Hardy needing "special" footwear is silly and (honestly) kinda funny. Seriously though, he either doesn't give that much of a damn about his NFL prospects or is too full of himself to realize that he's pissing away big bucks with this kind of crap. As fans, we think Greg Hardy is great. Watching him really lay into quarterbacks is some of the most exciting stuff we Rebels have to look forward to every Saturday. But he needs to play with some effort if we're going to show him any more respect. Greg, if you're reading this, take a lesson from Patrick Willis' "school of giving NFL scouts a boner." The guy was the best linebacker in college football, yet still practiced and played like he was trying to earn a starting spot. NFL scouts love that kinda stuff and P Willie with his Bentleys, house on San Francisco bay, and platoon of ladyfriends can attest to that.

EDIT: For shiggles, I Google image searched "Special Shoes" and got these. If anybody sees any of these in or around Oxford, deliver 'em to Hardy because he's apparently misplaced his.

EDIT^2: Let's throw some YouTube in there, for good measure.

It seemed to me that Cody played an important role. He was the lead blocker for Ingram's TD, and certainly forced Ole Miss to try some tricky plays to score their first TD. After he went out with a knee injury early in the 3rd, OM started moving the ball easier playing a more traditional form of football.

Yeah he blocked a safety... woohoo.

I could see it really being a point to base an argument off of he blocked say Peria Jerry... but it was Kendrick Lewis.. who weighs.. oh maybe 180 lbs.

Ole Miss scores 3 points while Cody is in, 17 after he's out ... and your point about this game is that he's overrated? Unbelievable, unless it's sarcasm that I'm just missing.

The shoes in the second picture are BALLER! They look like the ones from Back To The Future 2.

RTR, I feel that Ole Miss wasn't scoring early because or inopportune turnovers and sub-par playcalling.

Halpert, I'm pretty certain they are the shoes from BTTF2.

Sub-par playcalling, emagine that.

Horrible spelling from an Arkansas fan, imagine that.

As an Ole Miss alum and a faithful reader of this blog, I feel this is one of the worst posts the solocup has provided us with. I don't know if we were watching the same game, but until Cody went out the rebels were having trouble running the ball and had amassed a total of 3 points.

We've had trouble running up the middle ALL SEASON LONG. Terrence Cody didn't change that. We put up 158 rushing yards against the Tide. About half of those rushing yards came BEFORE Cody's injury.

Trouble running the ball? You apparently forgot Enrique's 60-something yarder in the first quarter. Also, we weren't exactly pounding it out with the run after Cody was out.

Granted, much of that has to do with the score and having to pass to come back from behind, but I stand by the opinion that Terrence Cody is not the force-with-which-to-be-reckoned that the Tiders make him out to be.

You are correct, about half the rushing yards were gained before Cody's injury which is roughly 85 yards. Take off the 60 yard run because we will analyze that in a moment and you have 25 yards rushing. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the highlights on CBS.com will show this as well, but on Davis's run he started out up the middle quickly cut back to follow the fullback, and the alabama linebackers were completely out of position. This was in no way Cody's fault. It was good playcalling on the part of Nutt and the staff because they had seen the tide defense consistently overplay and jump at the back as he went up the middle. The guy may not be as versatile as Peria Jerry but he has more heart than Greg Hardy, and is one hell of a force in the middle of a 3-4 defense. You are entitled to your opinion just as I am. I was just a little disappointed in your observations because they are usually pretty accurate in my opinion. Thanks for the good work you guys do. Let's hope Pete Boone doesn't run off Nutt, Kennedy, or Bianco anytime soon because we have a solid foundation in these 3 guys.

"he has more heart than Greg Hardy"

That's not saying much.

And, yeah, you're right in that he's certainly the ideal NT for a 3-4 defense. He's got a heck of a pro career awaiting him. I just feel that if Terrence Cody wasn't a part of Bama's lineup at all, we still lose a close game.

I may be the first (or only) rebel fan to say this but...I think it's time we benched Dex. You don't exactly lose a game on one play, however, every one of his turnovers produced points for the other team and what more, destroyed all momentum we thought we had. He's a tiny guy. I've met him quite a few times and the ball is half his size! What's worse is that his confidence is completely gone now. He's hanging his head pretty low these days. And if he DOES stay in, it may be time for him to learn how to carry the ball with two hands in the middle of the chest. An awkward way to run but it's much harder to have it stripped. And he shouldn't throw...period.

Is this a spelling bee or a football blog?
Are you that scared to face reality (facts) about your so-called playcaller, that you cowardly have to change the subject
to make yourself look smart?
Go back and look at your own post, (red solo cup admin) and you'll find that you used the word "or", instead of "of".
It doesn't really matter to me, since I got the meaning of what you said anyway, but since it matters so much to you, I thought I'd let you know so you could fix it.

Back to the subject at hand.

Enrique Davis's 60 yard gallop(as one guy has already pointed out) had nothing to do with Cody what so ever.
Cody doesn't have to make a lot of plays to be dominant. His presence in the middle, along with the fact that he ALWAYS has to be double-teamed, free's up the outstanding group of LBs the Tide have.
Thier 3-4 defense is set up for the LB to make the play. So yea, he is that good.

Gonzo,

As I've said before, the reason we call out Arkansas fans for their poor use of English is that we're chronically called out on here for being from a state with a supposedly inferior public educational system. If you'll look through the old "RSC vs. Woopig pissing fight" comment threads you'll notice that most of the Ole Miss apologists use proper spelling, punctuation, and syntax whereas the Arkansas folks don't.

We run this blog and we would like it if people would at least demonstrate some linguistic fortitude if their going to opine. I tend not to take someone very seriously when they don't write like they care.

Gonzo, you're not nearly as bad as some of the others. I honestly don't mind you so much. Trust me, we've been taking it easy on you.

And HDN isn't perfect. None of us have ever suggested that. The playcalling wasn't horrible. There were certain times when the play would leave you scratching your head, but on the whole the game was fairly well called. He's a better Coach than Ed Orgeron and, for now, most of us are just fine with that.

Agreed rsca.
Ole Miss probably does have that reputation, but I wouldn't exactly say Arkansas get's a fair shake in that catagory either.
I'm kind of "old school" when it come's to grammer, but i'm far from stupid, especially when it come's to football.

Speaking of football, this is the week Ole Miss travels to Fayetteville.
The logical pick, of course, would be the Rebels to win the game, but it really just depend's on which Hog team of the past 2 1/2 games shows up.
Thier very capable of hanging with the Rebels, but if the O-line doesn't block well against the best D-line in the conference, I don't see that happening.
Both of these teams have the tendency to shoot themselve's in the foot from time to time, the only difference is that the Hogs usually do it in both feet.
Casey Dick had a terrible game against KU, but KU's pass defense is pretty damn good too, not to mention thier rushing defense inside the red zone is tough, tough. So, how that correlate with how well the Hogs do against the week secondary of the Rebels? That's anyone's guess, because if C. Dick is running all day, that usually mean's he's throwing it out of bounds or throwing it to the other team.
Common since tell's me to go with Ole Miss 24 - 7, but I sure as hell hope i'm wrong.

Oops! I said week. I mean't to say weak.
That wasn't the only mistake I made either, so fire away guys!

Dicpicable?

Fuck you, Foster.

Anonymous said...

Foster.....you would know about trailers, oh yes, you sale them. As you are right about cheering for an injured player your slash at your customer base is just uncalled for.....you ass.

I said "shamefully" grin. Do you know what "shame" is? It's where you feel bad for doing something you know you shouldn't. Look it up in a Goddamn dictionary you fucking dolt.

I know it's not appropriate to take delight in someone else's misfortune. I couldn't help it and, thus, the shame.

It's kinda like how you can't help beating your dick whenever you drive past a day care. You know it's bad, but it hurts so good.

While you're at it, look up Schadenfreude. No, I'm not going to waste my time telling you how to pronounce it.
