A Defense for Jevan Snead

People were actually booing Jevan Snead during the early parts of the Auburn game. Yes, as unbelievable as that may sound, the greatest offensive producer the Rebels have had since Eli Manning was being booed because of his slow start.

We all saw that Jevan had a poor first half, but he did nothing to jeopardize a victory. He threw no interceptions and did a decent job of keeping the Auburn defense at bay. True, he did make some horrible throws and true, his receivers weren't helping very much but Jevan most certainly did nothing which would warrant him being booed by his home crowd.

If you booed Jevan Snead you're likely an idiot.

Here you'll see the SEC statistics leaders. Scroll down to the passing categories and take a look at Jevan's numbers as they stack up against other SEC quarterbacks. What? You're too lazy to do that? Well, fine, I snagged a screen capture.

Look. While Jevan isn't setting the world on fire, he's certainly far from horrible. Yeah, he and Casey Dick lead the conference in INTs (which has subsequently hurt his efficiency rating) but he is tied with Tim "Heisman" Tebow for the most TD tosses in conference. He's third in yards per game. Third! Jevan has secured his place as the third best quarterback in the conference with behind Stafford and Tebow who, without any doubt in my mind, have better lines, receivers, and coaches.

Yet, you asshats booed him. That's ok, though. He showed up after his rocky start, tossed his two touchdowns and left the field a winner.

Snead is young and has only had this season to really play football (as opposed to true juniors Stafford and Tebow) and has showed us that he'll keep our passing offense at a truly competitive level over the next three seasons. Give him the credit he deserves, especially when he's just having a slow start to an early-day game.

Baaaaaaaaaaaaah! Jevan "overthrow" Snead played like shit in the first half and deserved to be booed. Perhaps you missed the last 3 years...

Don't you call me a damn sheep. Do you even read this blog, jackass?

He had a poor first half and, yeah, it frustrated me. I was seen throwing my cap in frustration more than once. But, I never thought to boo Snead because he did nothing that cost us the game.

Had he thrown a pick or lost a fumble which led to an Auburn score I certainly would have booed that.

"Perhaps you missed the last three years."

No, perhaps you missed them. We were fucking HORRIBLE at QB which is one reason I'm such a Snead supporter. What a horrible argument.

Hell of a post.

He MANAGED the game.. which is what we needed him to do.

No turnovers... no mistakes.

Damn good outing to me.

I don't want him to set the world on fire... I want him to keep us in the game which is what he did.

He didn't do anything to blow the game. True. Neither did he do anything to put it away when our defense was playing great.

I am not sold on Snead.

Is he better than Spurlock? Yes.

Better than Ethan Flatt? Yes.

Lane? Yes.

Schaeffer? Yes.

Adams? Well he does have a scholarship, so he's got that going for him. Stop fucking complaining, people.

Agreed, mostly. He helped us to not lose. I recall he looked off one crossing route driving towards the SEZ that probably would have been an easy score, so as a fan I'd like that back. Also needed to leave the pocket or throw it away once or twice.

The main thing is I never felt like he forced a blind pass, a la the two almost-picks on the last drive versus Wake, or the actual picks versus Vandy, SC, etc... But I'd still love to see him check or audible every now and then, *especially* when the impending blitz is obviou to this hippy pinko commie liberal who's never even donned pads a single time in his life.

You guys just don't get it yet do you?
The last poster gave it away, but Rebel fans haven't seen it enough to be clear on this.
The last poster said: "But i'd still love to see him check or audible every know and then".

Does anyone remember an Arkansas coached QB doing this over the past 10 years?

This is a system at work people, not the performance of one player.
If your booing now, you might as well forget ordering season tickets for next year, because most likely the playing style won't change, and you are just seeing the beginning of what wasted talent looks like.

Gonzohog. It really must have sucked losing to such a shitty coach and shitty team a couple weeks ago. Enjoy your victory over a C-USA team Saturday. Brag if you feel it is warranted. Then go fuck yourself in the ear.

I really didn't mind losing to Ole Miss this year, considering how young Arkansas is, and the talent level being down just a bit.
But yeah your right, Nutt is a shitty coach.

As far as bragging goes, i've already stated that C-USA is NOT the SEC, so i'm really not sure why your so confused about that, but not suprised.

As far as my sexual preferences are concerned, why fuck myself whens i's already fuckin yo momma?

Why does a hog fan troll a Rebel blog? No life maybe?

Please allow me, with no disrespect meant, to edify your misconceived notion of logic:

As original author of my words and beneficiary of having posted them in this unique forum which affords me some governance over their extension to other people's arguments, I must take issue with your extrication of my comment about our quarterback's capacity to recognize and react to defensive sets at the line of scrimmage. You ignore the entire first half of my statement in which I clearly articulate my satisfaction regarding facets of the game where he has shown laudable progress. I qualify those opinions with specific examples. I have no feelings towards your own opinion that our head coach is incompetent. Thanks to stadium scoreboards, you and I should have no need to discuss this issue further. Simply, I wish to point out that you cannot disregard the pretext of what I said, especially when it stands contradictory to that which you wish to assert.

Also, I pose, would you or I really forfeit such editorial responsibility beyond the anonymity afforded us by the internet? Surely not.

@gonzohog

I did not know that it was a coaches responsibility to recognize a blitz while he was under-center, nor did I realize that the coach was to call the audible while under-center. Correction the coach has nothing to do with that, it might have been say the dumb ass quarterback you guys had who did have the intelligence or awareness, because your savior Mitch Mustain was a freshman dumb ass with no patience to learn the game. And you didn't have to pass or audible much because you had to Award winning backs running the ball 95% of the time.

Snead will learn to recognize blitz packages and audible to hot routes occasionally, for now we have to give our quarterback consistent time to think in the pocket and when he has that success will be apparent.

I like the idiot that calls himself rh0d3$+@r said.

It's not every day you run into a guy that has to make a point by rattling off 900 fucking gazillion 5 dollar words to try and make you think he's smart.

Hey idiot, (no disrespect intended)just out of curiosity, who is it that's going to make sure your QB will learn when to check off/audible/change the play at the line of scrimmage?
Is he going to learn that all by himself?

As far as the comment made about Mustain is concerned, i'm not sure what the point really is, considering almost every Fresh. QB in the United States is pretty much a dumbass until he's taught
to do things the right way. That is, unless they don't have the coaching.

This is just a wild guess, but maybe the QB coach (Kent Austin, not HDN) is responsible for teaching the QBs how to read a defense. Nah, that would be too obvious.

Anonymous said...

Don't throw your reason and logic at him, jaxreb. He is impervious to your common sense comments.

Anonymous said...

Impervious? You don't really talk that way do you? Sounds like some little fagget in San Fran.

Just a little side note:
Nutt was a QB in HS and college.
He was recruited by the great "Bear" Bryant, and Frank Broyles out of Little Rock Central HS in 1976.
He couldn't hack it under Lou Holtz's veer offense in 1977, so he made a getaway to Oklahoma St. for more playing time.

He sucked then as a QB, and he sucks now as a developer of one.

QB coaches aren't just picked at random. Their hired by the HC to help carry out his philosiphy of the offense. Their also fired by the HC when their not on the same page.

"Sounds like some little fagget in San Fran."

This seriously made me laugh; not only because the epithet was misspelled, but also because it reminds me of Mike Judge's Idiocracy.

If you haven't seen it, Gonzo, it's a film which takes place in a future populated entirely by idiots. In this world, anybody who speaks clearly and/or uses big words is accused of "talking like a fag."

Gonzo, let me tell you what you are (and perhaps you've read this before). You are the ex-girlfriend who shows up at the bar to follow/watch/stalk your ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend. You claim you don't like the guy and would never want him back. You claim you hated him the whole time. You claim the new girl is fat and unattractive. The problem is that no one believes or will ever believe these claims, because if they were all true you wouldn't be at the bar (read: blog) in the first place, now would you? Hell no, you'd be out on your own, happy with your new guy (read: coach).

You don't see any of us on Duke blogs. Go away and take your transparency with you.

Anonymous said...

Ghost, one question:

If the future is entirely populated by idiots, then who could possibly be accused of talking clearly?

Also, the guy that's accusing me of being jealous of Nutt, definately has a screw loose somewhere.

Well geeze, Gonzo, I don't wanna ruin the whole movie for you! If you must know, Owen Wilson and Maya Rudolph play the test subjects of a military experiment geared towards long-term human hibernation. They are "frozen," fogotten about, and then stumbled upon in the future. It's similar to Futurama. Anyway, they were two people of somewhat average intelligence by todays standards, but since the world is populated exclusively by idiots in the future, they literally become the smartest people on Earth.

It's funny. Rent it.

What a coinsidence that you mention Owen Wilson.
Every time I ever watched him in any movie, I always thought he acted gay.

Sorry Ghost, I think i'll pass.

Bob said...

My bad, I meant Luke Wilson.
