Per reports on Rivals and various message boards, former Florida Gator safety Jamar Hornsby is interested in becoming a part of our beloved Rebels. Hornsby, a former 4-star athlete out of Jacksonville, deservedly gained his fair share of notoriety earlier this year when he was found guilty of credit card fraud.Oh, but this wasn't some simple ol' "I haxxor3d ur Ebayz" credit card fraud. No, no. This was credit card fraud of the "my teammate and his girlfriend died in a motorcycle wreck so now I'm using her card to snatch up some 5 dollar footlongs" variety.
Eesh...
My question to you, the faithful readers of Le Cup, is "would you take him?" Personally, I'm a bit torn. While I'd love to have a large (6'3", 195lbs in high school), athletic safety anchor our secondary, I don't know if that's the kind of press Ole Miss needs.

At this point in our season, anything other than marshay green looks promising. Hopefully we'll patch up our problems so we won't have to recruit guys that make us look like Alabama last year discipline wise.
That thug used a dead teammate's dead girlfriend's credit card, and yet we are thinking about signing him?! HELL NO! He belongs in prison, not in Oxford. I'm sure all the inmates would think that ridiculous hair style of his was cute, though.
In all sincerity, when I saw the title of this post (with the question mark), and then looked at the picture, I immediately thought it had come to light that that big ass girl center LSU's women's hoops team had was discovered to be a man. That was before I read the story. Just FYI.
Regardless: No. There's a difference between getting in a fight at a bar a la Rick Razzano, and stealing from a dead person who was also your dead good friend's girlfriend. One is momentary bad judgement. The other indicates a degree of caluculated malice and an utter lack of a moral compass.
Beck, I agree completely. It nearly makes me physically ill to think about Hornsby's criminal action. I'm not sure whether RSC's readers also read Every Day Should Be Saturday, but it is a well-known national college football blog written by a Florida Gator fan, "Orson Swindle." When this story broke earlier, Orson was rightfully sickened, and he wrote a condemning, accurate piece on this thug. And now Ghost wants to pose a question to us about signing this criminal...

2.) While I'm not decrying Hornsby, I'm also not singing his praises. The posing of the question was nothing more than an effort to generate discussion among the RSC community which, as far as I can tell, has worked fairly well.

Thanks for pointing out the link. I should have clicked it before I posted, but my point remains the same: Hornsby is a thug, and I want no part of him at Ole Miss. And yes, as usual, you have done a nice job of prompting discussion. However, I simply disagree with the premise that Hornsby's situation merits a discussion. Whether Michael Oher or Andre Smith is the best offensive lineman in the SEC is worthy of a debate. Whether Hornsby should be an Ole Miss Rebel is not discussion-worthy, in my opinion.
And one more thing, Ghost. I'm not trying to beat you down, but I want your honest answer to this question: How can you not decry Hornsby? Similarly to what Beck said, what Jamar Hornsby did was outrageous. I defended Brent Schaeffer after he got in a bar fight at Tennessee, because he was defending his girlfriend, and he had a little too much to drink (we are all guilty of that). We are not all guilty of using a dead friend's dead girlfriend's credit card. What's not to decry?

In all seriousness, I would feel kind of dirty cheering for him. I'd still cheer for him, but I would feel bad about it.
You want my honest opinion, alright, here it is:
What Hornsby did is so unfathomably inhuman that thinking about it literally renders me speechless. I can only wonder what on Earth goes through someone's mind to cause such behavior. While he's likely a helluva football player and could fill in a serious need of ours, I'd be ashamed to see him in an Ole Miss uniform.
This is unusual for me because I generally give thugs a "get out of jail free card" with regards to my negative opinions. I've spent a night in the clinker before and have done some pretty stupid stuff in my life just like the great majority of us. It's called "youth" and it happens to everyone. However, this isn't that, this is something completely different entirely.
I mean, shit, it's not like Hornsby was starving to death or anything. He was using that young woman's credit card to just do whatever with. Some have said "well, you know, he wasn't technically stealing from her but rather the credit card company" but I'm not alright with that amount of slack-cutting. The girl and her boyfriend (a teammate of his no less!) died tragically young and, within a very short period of the their deaths, he steals what was her credit card.
That's beyond heartless.
There, it's out there. I didn't wanna do that right away because I thought it would be interesting to see what some of our readers thought and I felt that if I had come out and said all of that I would not have gotten the number or variety of comments I have gotten.
If you disagree with me, we're still cool. I can understand your stance; he could help us win games and as a fan that is your primary concern. Just don't let me die in a motorcycle wreck in your immediate vicinity any time soon.
BTW that last part about not being near me in a motorcycle wreck was a joke. I don't mean to suggest that anyone with a different opinion than my own is a nefarious person. I'm not a politician, alright.
However, if you did take it that way, be sure to turn your "humor radar" on when you visit this site. I know they don't sell them in Arkansas or Alabama but, for those of you who can get your hands on one, it'll become a wise investment.

You can get one in Arkansas, but have to apply for a special permit. Attending school out of state gets your name moved up on the list.
Call me a jerk, but for me it simply boils down to how good of a football player he is. I know that's not the PC thing to say, but that's the truth.
Is what he did wrong on a whole bunch of levels? Definitely.
However, we're talking about winning football games here, and if he's good enough athletically to outweigh the negative press you might receive for having him on the squad, then you take him.
That's the way I look at all players. If the ways they can help you win outweigh the ways they hurt you either in public or within the team, then you keep them around. As soon as their negative actions outweigh their talent, you get rid of them.
For example, if a walk on gets a DUI or drug charge, boot him. On the other end of the spectrum, there is Ryan Perrilloux who gets multiple free passes until the distraction becomes so big that it might actually hurt the team more than he could help them.
That sounds bad, but I've gotten over the idea that there is any image to be upheld with athletics. It is what it is. Your job is to win, not develop choir boys.

I'm not saying I'm going to like the guy as a person. I still think what he did was wrong. However, all signs indicate that he's going to be a part of our football team and if he gets himself a few picks and crashes into opposing receivers like a loose freight train then I'll have no choice to love him.... strictly as a player.
I know that not every player can be a Patrick Willis type of guy (great person and a kickass ball player) but this Hornsby shit is pretty low.
Bruiser, you make a good and logical point. But you're missing the main premise. Getting a DUI, cutting class, getting in a bar fight, etc. are all forms of forgivable mistakes (albeit before the mistakes form a pattern of behavior). What Hornsby did is no mistake. It is despicable and completely unforgivable (as far as a COLLEGE football team standpoint). I don't care if he's Ronnie Lott in the secondary; Hornsby should not be given a chance. It would be easier for us all if there were more players like the Manning brothers.
I don't want him simply because we would never hear the end of it from State fans. I have friends that hang stuff over my head from the 90's. They're absurd about stuff like this.

shit it's hard for me because I like stud ass athletes, but he did some foul shit. My thirst for winning wins out in the end. I think he knows he's on a short leash a very very short leash with absolutely no room for error. He'll probably have to sign a contract stating that he'll stay completely trouble free before he signs his scholarship. I'm all about giving people 3 strikes, he's on his last one already so if he dosen't hack it he's out.

If you guys had seen the kid Razanno beat up you would change your tune. He was seconds away from killing the guy. Pure 'roid rage. Seriously we almost had the distinction of having a murderer on the team he kept beating the guy's head against the curb when he was down, all over some perceived slight against his girlfriend.
I'll take a little credit card fraud over that any day but best to leave them both alone.
If Doug Gotleib (sp) can be on ESPN after doing a little CC fraud at Notre Dame, this guy can play safety for a couple years for the Rebs.
Just don't live with him or leave your wallet anywhere out in the open around him.

It's real easy to say that's a part of being young, but it's also a copout when you know the difference between right and wrong.
Reguardless though, what this kid did makes him one sick fuck, and that's about all you can say about that.
Should he be accepted on the Ole Miss team? That's something only a persons contious can answer.
Gonzohog, a poor CHOICE is a MISTAKE. That's just about the actual definition of mistake. Also, it's regardless, not reguardless. You're better than that, I think.
