Both players were coveted by the staff, especially Neat, and are great additions for the class. We are running low on spots now and it will be interesting to see how everything shakes out for the Rebels. I would like to see us drop Artice Kellam and replace him with David Conner, there really is no difference between the two and it is more important to build the in-state relationships than focusing on the out of state ties.
Cameron Whigham should probably be cut lose too, I would much rather make room for Victor Gray and Kitchens. I'm also very skeptical on Stephen Houston. I am pretty sure he is not really committed, but it would be nice to get him off the list anyways. His highlight video is not impressive at all and he is a grade issue.
Right now the Rebels need to put the full court press on Patterson, Norwood, Massie, Hardy and Cotton. Closing out the class with at least two of the above would be great, but I can see the Rebels snagging three of the five.

Anybody know what the status of Darius "Tig" Barksdale is? All I know is that he is at Hargrave. Does anyone know if he's going to make the grades or if we're still recruiting him? I would love to see that guy in our secondary.
I checked Tig's profile on scout.com. It lists Ole Miss as his only school of interest. He took an official visit back on 12/5, and doesn't have any other visits scheduled. What's weird is that there are no actual scholarship offers listed. Someone told me he didn't play much at Hargrave this year, so grades could still be an issue. I've been wondering about Chris Strong. Last I heard, he'd been playing well at Northwest CC in Senatobia, MS.
Anon,
It's looking like his grades won't be in order and he'll be off to JUCO after this season. Hopefully he gets things straightened out and can be a Rebel next season but I wouldn't put all of my eggs in that basket. I, as you, would love to see Tig in our secondary as well. I saw him play some at South Panola and he's got incredible speed and ideal size to boot.
Do you guys know if we have a shot at Marlon Walls decommitting from Tennessee? Seems like a long shot. Hate to see us lose guys from in-state. Are you guys very familiar with how the committment process works? Say Ole Miss has a great game against TTech and gets a lot of interest from other 4 or 5 star recruits. Are we out of spots, or do some guys start to lose scholarships?
I would guess that if any of the five stars we're pursuing (Massie, Berry, Randle) wanted to come to Ole Miss, we would let them. At this point, I don't like our chances with any of them though. Obviously Massie is the most possible of those three. I just get a bad feeling on him.
I think there are certain players they would make room for, but at this point I don't think we'll get those players.
Anon: I doubt we have much interest in Walls and vice versa. Haven't seen anything to indicate otherwise. Last year Nutt oversigned, and count on him to do it again this year. Some of the guys will be headed to prep school/JUCO, and some will likely be asked to grayshirt. A grayshirt means that you enroll in school, pay through one semester, and then go on scholarship if you pass. We convinced a couple of guys to do that last fall, and a couple of guys dropped. Either way, it clears up a spot for a last minute guy like Enrique Davis. Doesn't sound terribly ethical, but neither is committing and decommitting willy-nilly, as is the norm for kids these days. I just hope the coaches warn them far enough in advance to have a plan B.
Apparently, at least with Jamaal Berry, we are no longer interested due to landing Neat. That says a lot about how highly the staff thinks of Neat.
@rebelbruiser...
Says more about the chance we had to land Berry... none.

Someone on the OMSB linked some 'note' or status or soemthing from Chris Strong's facebook page. Apparently in between talking about HC HDN and AD PB and RK getting to the SECCG and winning NCs, he was able to paste said note which said he (CS) will be back at Ole Miss in 2009.
Got that?
I'm friends with Chris Strong on Facebook. Don't believe anything he writes on there.
