A Sun Belt Team? Ouch...

Bruce Feldman, a writer for ESPN and the author of "Meat Market: Inside the Smash-mouth World of College Football Recruiting," was recently interviewed by VolQuest.com to give his insight on their recent hiring of Ed Orgeron. Feldman spent an extended amount of time in Oxford observing El Recruitzilla himself as research for Meat Market and, as such, has a pretty good understanding of the Ole Miss athletics administration. In the interview, he had this to say:

Ole Miss has nice facilities, but you are talking about Tennessee, you are not busing 6 hours to an away game. In some ways, I think Ole Miss partly from the athletic director is almost run like a Sun Belt conference school, whereas I think you are talking about Tennessee and the financial commitment they have made to the staff, but also just in terms of what the program is.

Damn you, Pete. How's the baseball expansion of yours coming, by the way? Oh, really, it's way behind schedule? Shocking.

Our athletic department has royally fucked the baseball expansion. We pick an awful architecture firm to design it, then we pick a crap construction company like Panola Construction when one of the largest construction companies in the South, Yates, is MS based.

Boone does things years after they should be done (bball practice facility, jumbotron, etc) and then thinks he should get praise for upgrading facilites. And don't even get me started about Telesouth...

perhaps the end [of pete] is in sight. new Chancellor should ask for his resignation/retirement if he doesn't have the sense to volunteer it.

I have always been a firm believer that you never really understand someone's job unless you've had it before. I can't tell you if Boone is doing a good job or not. I have no idea what is said to him behind closed doors and what he really is given to work with. Maybe he wants to do all the things that we all bitch about. Perhaps it is shut down by higher authority. I have no idea. I am happy with the direction the athletic programs are heading in.

Boone is a micromanager, and it's well known that most of our coaches don't have the best relationship with him.

That said, his days are numbered, and I think that's going to partially be Pete's choice. With Khayat leaving in June, I believe Boone will stick around long enough to see the new chancellor named, and then I think he'll announce his own retirement to allow the new chancellor to hire his own choice for AD.

most of are unhappy that:

1. we had to have buckets in the Tad Pad when it rained;

2. the baseball stadium expansion has been a construction catastrophe;

3. Nutt hates Pete;

4. Mike hates Pete;

5. AK hates Pete [but maybe less since Pete didn't suspend or fire him for acting like an adolescent];

6. daytime fireworks; and

7. being a pillar of the GOB network that leads to "sunbelt" type comments from national media.

Here's an idea:

Fire Boone, then hire Frank Broyles out of retirement.
Your head football coach will be estatic.
